Best pediatric prosthetic and orthotic care in Charlotte for a child with a limb difference?
There is no single best clinic for every child. The best one for your family is the clinic whose team can fit the prosthesis or orthosis your child needs, works with your insurance, is easy for you to reach, and works alongside your child’s doctors and therapists. When you compare clinics, ask who will fit your child’s device, what credentials they hold, which pediatric devices they fit and how follow-up visits work.
At Richardson Prosthetics & Orthotics, children are seen by a small team you can meet before your first visit on our About page: Rondell Richardson, MBA, CO, BOCP, a certified prosthetist orthotist; Chris McClurkin, MPO, a prosthetist and orthotist who enjoys helping pediatric patients and amputees thrive; and Jaime Andujar, a prosthetic technician with over 15 years of experience.
How Richardson Prosthetics & Orthotics helps
Each fitting starts with listening. We consider your concerns alongside your child’s physician, therapists and family, then design, make and fit the device around your child’s goals.
- Prostheses for children with limb differences, including children born with a limb difference.
- Pediatric orthotics from SureStep, Orthomerica and Invent Medical, and custom AFOs, SMOs and UCBL orthotics. More on our orthotics and braces page.
- Cranial remolding helmets (Talee, Sprout 3D).
- Charleston bending brace for scoliosis.
- Care after the fitting: adjustments and refinements, follow-up care and long-term support.
- Spanish-speaking support: Se habla español, from scheduling to questions about treatment options.
Who it is for (and who it is not for)
Richardson Prosthetics & Orthotics is a good fit if you are:
- A family in the Charlotte area whose child was born with a limb difference or has limb loss and needs a prosthesis.
- A family whose child needs an orthotic brace, a cranial remolding helmet or a scoliosis brace.
- A family covered by Medicaid, NC Medicaid or a commercial plan we accept.
- A family who would rather talk through care in Spanish.
We are not the right fit if your child needs:
- Surgery or other medical treatment for the limb itself. That care comes from your child’s surgeon and physician; we work alongside them.
- A device without an evaluation and fitting. Every device we provide is fitted in person.
Families come to our Charlotte clinic from Gastonia and from every county in North Carolina. Our Durham clinic, 5316 Highgate Dr, Suite 125, Durham, NC 27713, offers the same services by appointment, and we also see patients at a clinic at OrthoCarolina in Concord.
